Do your 2017 resolutions include building an online business? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone!

Many traditional business owners are looking to not only go online, but MOVE . online.

Success stories of inexpensive online advertising turning high profits for online products and services are luring in individuals from all fields to start their own businesses.

Caution: Before we get into the specifics of what needs to happen in order for you to have a successful online business, remember this: “Overnight success takes a decade to happen.”

So, can you build a successful online business that practically spits out money? Absolutely. Can you do it overnight? Unlikely.

Here are 3 things you must realize before starting your online business.

1. You MUST have a clear vision.  There is a lot of noise out there. You have to tune in to the signal. Creating a sustainable online business will require you to zero in on what your product or service is and specifically whom it can help. Do NOT start broad and then “figure it out”. Trust me – you want to start narrow and then broaden your scope. In short, your product cannot be all skin care and it cannot help everyone with skin. You must be very purposeful about what you sell and who you sell it to.

2. It WILL take a lot of work.  Online entrepreneurship is not synonymous with “easy money”. Besides being able to work in pajamas all day, there isn’t anything easy about it. Even if you have a great development and online marketing team, a decade of experience in business management and a stellar product, putting all of the pieces together is a feat. Be prepared to spend much of your time on phone calls, in front of white boards, writing 6 pages worth of changes for one round of development work. Be ready to put in WORK.

3. You must KEEP UP with the times. We know… you’re probably saying, “I’m finally going online – isn’t that enough modernization?” It’s not a secret that technology moves FAST. Marketing maneuvers move even faster. While you should keep up with what tools are out there to help you achieve your goals, you should also not get distracted by them. Keep your plan and execution at the forefront, but be malleable enough to adjust as necessary.

Oh, and don’t give up. It’s when you feel as if everything you are doing is in vain and this thing you are putting your life into will never take off – that’s when you need to give it another push.
